Weekly half-hour program; a sort of This is Your Life for kids but with skits, puppets and lots of goofiness.
THEMES:
Similar to Noggin’s A Walk in Your Shoes, This Show’s For You! presents a life and world with which other kids may not be familiar. The idea is for kids to discover new things -- ideas, interests, hobbies -- through the world of another child who’s just like them but different.
TONE:
Like many of the most-successful children’s programs, the characters, antics and learning aspect are all for kids, yet much of the humor and ideas are at an adult level. This makes it enjoyable for young and old.
HOW IT WORKS:
Parents send in any video, not necessarily one made for us, featuring their child. A child who’s chosen will be the "Star" for one episode.
The video should include a letter with personal information about the child: a funny story or two, their first word or words, maybe a problem they've encountered, likes, dislikes, and info about the family and place they live. No pop-culture stuff (i.e. the kid's a fan of Brittney Spears or Pokémon) will be part of the show.
ONLINE:
A "This Web Page Is For You!" will be created to accompany each episode. Like the show, the web page will revolve around that week's Star (MORE ONLINE below).
HOST:
A good-natured (preferably female) host with comedic talent will act as the guide as well as the calm in the storm of characters.
THE SHOW:
All of the information provided is culled together to create a show catered for that child. Said info will be used for skits, songs, activities, and adventures. The submitted video will be used during skits and scenes as will the Star’s likeness -- all to help cement the idea that this show is for that person.
The only appearance of the "Star" will be via the video tape; this keeps the costs down of flying out to, or flying in, the Star and allows the child’s appearance to remain a secret from the child while still allowing for that "Wow, I'm on t.v." aspect (If possible, a web-cam can be sent to Stars [and returned at the end of each show] in order for the audience to see the Star watching from his or her actual home!).
**The Star will be informed of "a special event" via e-mail or post office, depending on the parents’ preference.
SEGMENTS:
The show begins with a skit that ends with a -- à la SNL -- character stating, "This Show's For You, (name) !"
After the opening credits, the host tells us about "Today's Star," gives us a quick peek at the website, and plays a clip from the submitted video.
From there, skits of various kinds, music, games, and adventures will follow -- most of which will focus on the life of the star, all of which will follow a theme or two for the day.
The show will end with a party. The party, whenever possible, will reflect the Star's likes or interests. It could be a rock 'n' roll party, a bird party, a baking party, a birthday party (if applicable) and will always end with a reminder that, "This Show's For You!"
The Set:
The set will be reminiscent of a '70s variety show (i.e. "Sonny & Cher" w/faces decorating the backdrop). However, certain elements can be easily changed for each week's Star. Colors, background elements (decorations and other just-for-show props), and photos will be easily replaceable from week to week.
CO-STARS
Puppet characters, with the spirit and wit of The Muppets will be utilized; they will interact with human characters. . .
Puppets:
The Great Cornelius: An old wizard who wants nothing more than to be good at wizardry -- and he just isn't. He tries and tries, and will never admit when he's goofed either.
Larry & Stan: Two happy-but-crazy elderly fellas who always have a plethora of ideas on how something should be (i.e. improved). They discuss everything very loudly and with much fervor.
Muskles: A large black puppet who knows the finer things in life, like vichyssoise, Chess, everything there is to know about butterflies, France and decorating, amongst other things.
Frazzle: A crazy green monster hungry for attention -- and just plain hungry to boot. An insatiable appetite, troublemaker, and possible best friend to our host.
Major Blunder: Clumsy astronaut, also a hypochondriac & afraid of heights. . .our viewers' link to astronomy and all things science, through a very skewed POV. (This character may be computer animated instead)
And possibly a puppet band whose members won’t change but are re-named each week after the Star (e.g. The Jason 5 one week or The Victoria Orchestra another).
HUMANS
Our host and. . .
Anna Adventure: Female explorer of the new and exciting. She'll be our "woman on the street," our "show and tell 'operative'," the person who's all about new experiences.
Two-Headed Bob: Two guys, one personality. Two-Headed Bob has one head that’s very outgoing, has many interests, and is full of emotion. The other head is a true bore -- a drip. He hates everything and everybody. When Two-Headed Bob appears in a skit, Head 2 usually won't take part in it or may even try to ruin it.
Other characters will be added over time.
MORE ONLINE:
Behind-the scenes: this could go two ways. . .
1) an actual behind-the-scenes, where web-viewers see the goings on backstage (with careful planning to avoid ruining any screen magic [e.g. how he puppets are operated]).
2) a faux behind-the-scenes which is put on as the show is taped, allowing the actors fun opportunities to stay in their roles as if off the set.
This Show’s For You! will likely become more and more personalized as the audience moves further into the digital age. As well, web content (ideas, votes for skits [or how they end], polls, etc.) may become more influential as the Show catches on (maybe the Star will one day run the show from their home -- or host it from there!). Show will grow with its audience and with its Stars, and it will always brings something new to television.
