PANEL ONE: It's almost dawn, a sleepy PK sits upon a dumpster on which one half of the lid is opened...The Muerté symbol is seen on another building. He is still holding the large file. TWO: PK slides the folder into a large zippered pocket in the back of his padded vest. THREE: He is untangling some fishing wire connected to an odd-looking handle... PK (quietly): I'm in the big-time now, and I don't know what I'm doing... |
|---|
PK 2: Searched all night, in circles, didn't find nothing but a runaway who I hadda take home -- which also took too darned long.
FOUR:
We see now there is a weight on one end of the fishing wire...
PK: I mean sure, yeah, I helped out a kid an' all...
FIVE:
He's twirling the wire, trying to create momentum.
PK: ...But is that what a cape is for? The city needs a hero...
SIX:
He's thrown the wire -- we're following it as he talks off panel...
PK (O.P.): ...stuff like that is for...I dunno, emergency help lines and stuff.
|
SEVEN: The wire hooks perfectly around a street light. PK: I'm supposed to be helping stop a gang. Make this city realize Phantom Kid... EIGHT: Close on Kid. PK: ...is a big-time hero! |
|---|

ONE:
Shot from behind PK as he's about to swing off... in the background, ahead of PK, we can see one particularly mysterious-looking person walking by.
PK: I hope I can do this...(wish the buildings were lined with mattresses)...
TWO:
He's swinging on the line now, a little too low to the ground...the mysterious kid has looked towards PK (maybe question marks and exclamation points above him to add to the humor)...
THREE:
PK crashes into the kid, knocking his bandana off...
FOUR:
Close on PK's eyes, surprised...
FIVE:
Close on the kid's forehead: a Muerté tat is dead center.
SIX:
PK smiles big.

PANEL ONE:
PK has pinned the kid to the pavement, face down, as onlookers watch.
PANEL TWO-SIX:
He disarms him of two knives, a small six-shooter (placing the bullets into a pocket and tossing the gun into the sewer), and a cell phone & beeper.
At the tossing of the beeper:
MUERTÉ KID: Come on, man, that was mine! Shoot, my mom gave that to me.
MUERTÉ KID: #@$!!
PK: Mom's obviously keeping a close eye.
MUERTÉ KID: Whatevah! Who're you to preach!
PAGE 11
PANEL ONE:
PK cuffs the Muerté.
TWO:
PK: Um, I think I'll be your host for the next few hours.
THREE:
Phantom Kid carries the Muerté up to the top of a building.
PK (thought balloon): Where do I bring this guy?
FOUR:
Jumping to another building, PK seems to be heading towards a far-off train station...
FIVE:
Sliding down a telephone wire he has hooked his arms around, PK looks like he's having trouble holding the gang member... a train is heading towards them in the background...
PAGE 12PAGE 13
ONE:
Crain Crandall is at his computer, books open nearby...maybe in the background we can see the door to the room open, teenage boys actin' jerky just outside.
TWO:
SFX (from window): PCH!
Crain looks over curiously...
THREE:
Crain has stuck his head outside the now-open window.
PK (O.P., from above): Hey!
FOUR:
From Crain's POV (or over-the-shoulder)...he sees PK on the roof...
CRAIN: How'd you--?
FIVE:
Same shot except PK's pulled the Muerté guy into view (his eyes are covered by his bandana).
CRAIN: Aw, for chryssakes!!
SIX:
The three are walking down some stairs, obviously from the roof, Crain in front, and Reg Reynolds pulling up the rear...they've got headphones on the gang member and Reg is holding his PK outfit rolled up under his arm.
SFX (around Muerté's earphones): [musical symbols]
CRAIN: What if he screams or--
REG: He won't...it's like a war to him. Codes of conduct or whatever.
PAGE 14
ONE: darkness
TWO:
A single light shines upon the Muerté kid still blindfolded and wearing headphones...
MUERTÉ: Man! What're you stupid, dam--
THREE:
The shot widens to show Reg & Crain in view.
REG: So, what're your thoughts here.
CRAIN: It's war. We torture.
REG 2: That makes us no better.
CRAIN 2: Get creative...
FOUR:
Close-up of a Dixie Chicks CD being placed in the portable player.
REG (O.P.): My little sister loves them -- gave me this when I left home.
FIVE:
Pretty pink music notes emanate from the headphones, Crain is wrapping a towel around the gang boy's mouth.
REG: Didn't the DEA do this with Noriega or someone, I remember hearing about it in grammar school.
REG 2: So I guess we'll leave him, get to breakfast--
CRAIN: Then the big meeting the dean's called.
REG 3: Oh. Okay. Yeah, then we'll come back and see if we can get some questions answered.
