ONE:

A close bird's eye view of Crain Crandall sitting on Reg's bed deep in thought.

Doodlebook

TWO:

We pull out to see, next to Crain is an open notebook -- the one with the doodles seen towards the end of last issue.

THREE:

Different angle, we now see that lots of Reg's things are open -- drawers, closet, books. Crandall's made a big mess.

FOUR:

He shuts the notebook on the bed without looking at it.

Notebook

FIVE:

He's gotten up, heading to a door which is NOT the exit.

PAGE 12

In a bathroom obviously shared by several people (it should have two to four doors into it as well)

ONE:

Crandall is staring into the mirror...he isn't pleased with himself.

CRAIN: Great. You dug through his personal stuff, and now you know everything.

CRAIN 2: You...freakin' dork!

CRAIN 3: He's totally a friend to you...and you thank him by being sodding selfish and telling yourself it's just that you're trying to help him.

CRAIN 4: Big-league a-muncher who can't be trusted. That's you. (I don't think this is what Dr. Siegel meant when he said "be honest with yourself when it comes to you.") And what use are you to a guy who's probably out there right now cleaning up this city anyway?

TWO:

It's the alleyway...the Muertés have virtually piled onto Phantom Kid, but he's fighting back valiantly. He looks like he's getting hurt pretty bad.

Extry!

PAGE 13

PANELS ONE-THREE: maybe a triptych across the top-half of the page.

Lopez sits in his apartment. He's on the phone -- t.v. on.

LOPEZ: Yeah, we've got a new one out there...Seems like one of the better - mmmm - eggs.

LOPEZ 2: Well, I got the department spokesperson to put that headline about the Kid bein' "OK," but I now owe several - mmm - folks a favor. I think the kid's lost out there...

LOPEZ 3: A lot like you when you first started.

PK OK!

LOPEZ 4: ...Yeah, right! I figured that bull out in, what?, a week!...Secret identity, my--

LOPEZ 5: Heh. You better!...Really, I think if you just find him, give him a few pointers...I think we both, mm, remember what it's like to be that age, hm?...

LOPEZ 6: ...You know, you just think you can take on the world.

BOTTOM HALF/PANEL FOUR:

PK is holding one guy back (hey, maybe the other hand's got a grip on a guy's fist, and he's using THAT guy's arm to block yet a third), but he's up against a wall and numerous others are getting in lots of good shots.

PAGE 14

POW!

NINE PANELS: Crandall is cleaning up, vigorously putting everything back where he found it. No more than four of these panels (interspersed) should show PK gettin' his butt whupped some more (an occasional block or dodge on PK's part wouldn't hurt as this'll go on for one more page).

The dialogue runs throughout.

CRAIN: I'll just put it all back, and I'll tell him I found out like it was an accident. A mistake, 'cause I wanted to borrow a pen.

CRAIN 2: Bugger, better toss my pens.

CRAIN 3: I'm being an idiot. Just tell him you were playing the concerned roommate role.

CRAIN 4: Hey, what if I said, "Gordo came in here and--"

CRAIN 5: Crud. That doesn't help. Just tell him the concerned thing -- which is true (he's probably saving some hottie from an escaped felon right about now anyway) -- and tell him you figured it out...

OUCH!
KRACK!

CRAIN 6: That's it. Whatever. He'll play superhero, and you'll just be okay with all that.

CRAIN 7: Lucky, lucky guy.

PAGE 15

NINE PANELS: Lopez is getting himself ready for his tour (which is an evening-to-late night shift). While doing so, he takes a gander at an old newspaper featuring Railway City champion, The Conductor (a superhero with a train conductor theme -- no hat, but he should have a bandana around his neck and his costume should remind one of that old-time conductor look), with a headline which reads "The Conductor Orchestrates Another Feat!"

As on the previous page, four or less panels (interspersed) should show PK gettin' his butt whupped some more (an occasional block or dodge on PK's part wouldn't hurt).

Dialog runs throughout.

LOPEZ: "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Heh.

LOPEZ 2: God, that really is true. Heheh.

LOPEZ 3: ...Conductor'll find the kid. Give him a few...mmm...pointers -- like The Conductor before and the one before that and, you know, I never did find out how all that started...Lived here now for, hmm...

LOPEZ 4: ...Twenty-six years and three months.

LOPEZ 5: ...

LOPEZ 6: I hope the Kid gets found...

LOPEZ 7: Before he gets himself into something too hard to handle.

PAGE 16

PANEL ONE:

Angle on warehouse. The fire's out; it looks as if most of the trucks have dispersed. There are still trucks with hoses hooked up and firemen working the various equipment.

PANEL TWO-FOUR:

Shots of firemen and officials clearing out, taking off their hats and basically happy they've survived another job well done (in the background, one truck's got everything still hooked up, with guys manning the hose).

FIVE-SEVEN:

Three successive panels, along bottom, Phantom Kid still getting beaten...he's not exactly in good shape by this point as one would guess.

NOTE TO ARTIST:

in each panel, red highlights of light coming from off panel should light the shots more with each picture (as if the light source is getting nearer).

PANEL 7:

PK is a mess and probably can't see too well at this point what with blood and garbage and fists in his way.

Off Panel Man: That's enough...Let the Kid be!

PHANTOM KID (thought): W-who's th--? A hero, a real hero -- a cape -- to get me outta this?...
