Atop a building, Railway City skyline in background: It's the Phantom Kid struggling to climb his way out of a small mob of attacking gang members. A police helicopter, with spotlight trying to capture the action, flies by overhead CAPTION: The Phantom Kid is about to have one seriously rough night in...

PANEL ONE: External shot of school, favoring library... CAPTION: This is the East Side School for Young Adults... CAPTION 2: Home to recent Railway City émigré, and hero to the
folks in Harvest, Illinois who sent him here [NOTE to LETTERER: slightly smaller
typeface here: ] (including J.J. Downs who is owed $2.45 from an overdue video
rental and Mrs. Wanda Aufenkamp who still thinks Reg tackled her son Peter too darn
hard in a backyard football game when they were 11)... PANEL TWO: Shot of plain old Reggie Reynolds, studying hard over a notebook (in which he's making
notes [he's a righty by the way]) and a thick text book. The library is gorgeous
and looks very old. CAPTION: ...Reginald "Reg" Reynolds, a.k.a. Phantom Kid. PANEL THREE: Crain Crandall has approached, he's whispering to Reg... CRAIN (whispering): 'Right. I didn't see you after English Lit class? REG: Hm? Oh, hey, man. CRAIN 2 (whispering): Reg...Helloo? We usually run into one another before the
third period. Where were you? REG: Here. PANEL FOUR: Reg looks up at Crain... CRAIN: Bollocks. You skived economics class? REG: Yeah. My first test for Western Civ tomorrow. I've already gotten clobbered on two quizzes, I gotta ace this thing. PANEL FIVE: Reg is back to studying... CRAIN: You okay, man? You're looking totally knackered -- uh, beat. REG: City life. CRAIN: Yes. Uhhh, we gotta talk about that. But later so-- REG: Okay. Later, man. PANEL SIX: Crain, walking away with a shrug, leaves Reginald there -- his nose in his books. PANEL ONE: It's night, Reg is at the library but in a different seat (maybe he's got a few different books or a jacket on now he didn't have on before -- something to suggest there's been "off-screen" action, like he left the library for a while or something). TWO: Reg sees the clock on the wall. It reads a little after 8:30. REG (talking quietly to himself): Okay, I'm ready for that test, but going back to the
room now would be just crazy. It was hard enough grabbing my costume between classes today. REG 2: Gotta store my things somewhere though... THREE: Angle on Reg placing his text books onto a library bookshelf amongst other books. REG (thought balloon): Doubt anyone'll notice before I take 'em back in the morning. FOUR: Reg notices an open window, high up by the top-most shelf of books against the wall. FIVE: He's placing books onto the shelf (which we can see is by the open window), pushing them
up against folded clothes which are at the back of the bookcase. SIX: As the Phantom Kid, Reg climbs out the window (he was atop one of those bookcase ladders
with the wheels). ONE: It's Reg & Crain's dorm room. Crain stands staring at Reg's stuff, tapping his foot. TWO: CRAIN: I really shouldn't. CRAIN 2: I mean, it is his stuff. CRAIN 3: What business is it of mine? THREE: He's going through a drawer in Reg's desk, the newspaper which reads "Police Say
PK OK" is the most prominent thing on top of the desk. CRAIN: I know this is terribly wrong. This is a bad, bad thing. I know I shouldn't be-- FOUR: He's found something... CRAIN: Hm. FIVE: It's a photo of what might very well be Reg's entire town, with Reg himself dead
center. A banner reads, "Good Luck to Our Hometown Hero." ONE: Reg is running along a building ledge which runs adjacent to suspended train tracks. TWO: A train is heading towards him from behind. THREE: As it passes by, Reg eyes it carefully, in a sort of attack stance. FOUR: He grabs onto a metal gate-like area which surrounds the space between linked train cars. ONE: Reg is holding on tight to the metal gate, holding hard to the big, metal bucking
bronco of a train. TWO: He spots reflections of lights, like those from fire trucks, down on the street, not
too far off. REG CAPTION: Well, here I go... THREE: For the rest of the page, he's catching up to the trucks. REG CAPTION: All those people back home sent me to Railway City for this purpose. FOUR: REG CAPTION: To help. Anyone. Anyone who could use it, that I even have the
ability to help. REG CAPTION 2: And, to tell the gosh-honest truth-- FIVE: REG CAPTION: --I don't know if I'm ready for this.
