(Elseworlds: mini-series, series of one-shots, or 5th week event)

* NOTE: In DC's "Elseworlds" books, familiar characters are taken from their normal
settings and put into different time periods, new situations, or entirely new worlds...

It is a futuristic world, an orderly, sparkling world of spires and towers, staleness and subjugation -- it is 2084, it is the country of Middle Atlantica, and big Brother War is watching!

Six heroes struggle to save the world from itself: Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, Wally West, Hal Jordan, a woman named Diana, and an outsider known only as the Aqua-Man.

There will be seven books in the series: one focusing on each hero’s story and a finale wherein the heroes come together as the Justice League! (note: there can be an eighth piece focusing on Martian Manhunter; at this time, he plays a small but crucial role as a villain)

The Aqua-Man is stuck outside Middle Atlantica, forced to wage war against a world whose people, he feels, have done no real wrong. He protects his city and his people as best he can, and has occasional communication with the powerful man who heads the Middle Atlantica Underground -- the man he believes will lead the world back to its salvation!

The woman named Diana has vague memories of a different world; something inside her says this isn’t right! She will rebel against the Party, fall in love with a broken man (Hal Jordan), and attempt to join the Underground. Will she break the shackles of a homogenized society?

Hal Jordan works in the factories, stitching uniforms. Everyday at lunch he sits with the same group of knobs (as did 1984’s Winston): too-smart-for-his-own-good Guy; family man John; jaded, rebellious youngster Kyle. Hal has an affair, and, soon, a strange ring finds him. What it is and what it does are a mystery, for he has no will power with which to use it. But, amongst these four men, there is someone who does!

Each morning the glowing, green telescreens alight with the picture of a man: Brother War. A moment later, a less-terrifying man appears: Wallace West. Wally’s face is worn, but he is known as "the most fit man alive!" It is his job to bring Middle Atlanticans through their daily calisthenics routine. He is obviously agile, super-fast, and he promises that "if you work as hard as I do, and exercise as much as me, one day you too will be as fast!" But Wally does not want this any longer. . .yet, what can he do?

And why do all the telescreens glow green? It must be the Kryptonite filament in every single one. This helps to keep the leader of the Underground at bay! There are rumors about who he is and where he is from, but they are unsubstantiated; nobody knows for certain -- save for the Party!

Both Hal and Diana found one man to trust. His name is Bruce Wayne. He tells them about the Underground, confirms its existence, and lets them know they are not alone in their need for rebellion. But Bruce Wayne turns on the couple -- he is the torturer to both Diana and Hal when they are captured. He is not only in the Party, one would wager to guess he has strong ties to its inner core!. . . Well then, how exactly is it that Diana escaped?

The 2084 world:

Wally West, Clark Kent and Diana. All were signals of trouble to come from a planet which seemed to be breeding "metahumans" (the heroes of Earth). . .these beings may very well upset the universal balance, endangering other worlds throughout the galaxy. The Guardians of the Universe could not have that! First, they created a brave breed of soldier, the Green Lanterns, to safeguard themselves and, next, they came to Earth and enlisted help! Brother War posters line the building walls; they feature Ares. The Party was born, mental blocks were placed on the metas, order was created, and the world advanced! Bruce Wayne was drawn into the Party through love for a woman; her father, Ra’s Al Ghul, is a major influence in the Party. Bruce's heart, and the hearts of six other citizens, will awaken to the hero that’s inside each of them!
